Marketplace selling provides access to established customer bases and built-in traffic. Amazon alone has 300 million active customers. Marketplaces should complement, not replace, your own store.

Amazon selling models: Seller Central (you sell directly, FBA or self-fulfilled) versus Vendor Central (you sell to Amazon wholesale). Seller Central provides more control; Vendor Central provides less management.

Amazon listing optimization: keyword-rich titles (up to 200 characters), bullet points highlighting key features, A+ Content (enhanced brand content with images and comparison charts), and backend search terms.

Amazon advertising: Sponsored Products (keyword-targeted product ads), Sponsored Brands (brand awareness), and Sponsored Display (retargeting). Advertising is essentially required for visibility on Amazon.

Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA): Amazon stores, picks, packs, and ships your products. Products gain Prime eligibility. FBA fees include storage and fulfillment. Calculate if FBA or self-fulfillment is more profitable.

eBay selling strategy: eBay is strong for used goods, collectibles, and niche products. Use auction format for unique items and Buy It Now for standard products. eBay's buyer base differs from Amazon's.

Walmart Marketplace: growing rapidly with lower competition than Amazon. Walmart vets sellers more strictly. If approved, lower competition means better visibility. Strong for household and consumable products.

Multi-channel inventory management: synchronize inventory across your store and marketplaces using tools like ChannelAdvisor, Sellbrite, or Linnworks. Overselling across channels damages reputation.

Pricing strategy across channels: account for marketplace fees (8-15% on Amazon, 10-13% on eBay) when setting prices. Some sellers price higher on marketplaces to cover fees while remaining competitive.

Brand building versus marketplace dependency: use marketplaces for volume and customer acquisition, but invest in driving marketplace customers to your own store for repeat purchases with higher margins.
