JAMstack architecture pre-renders pages at build time and serves them from a CDN. Dynamic functionality is added through JavaScript and APIs. The result is fast, secure, and scalable websites.

Framework selection: Astro (content-focused, multi-framework), Next.js (React, full-stack capabilities), Gatsby (React, GraphQL-based), and 11ty (JavaScript, minimal framework overhead). Choose based on your needs.

Headless CMS integration: separate content management from presentation. Popular options include Contentful (enterprise), Sanity (flexible), Strapi (open-source), and Storyblok (visual editor). Content editors work in the CMS; developers build the frontend.

Build process: content changes trigger rebuilds. Full rebuilds for small sites take seconds. Large sites use incremental builds (ISR in Next.js, DPR in Netlify) to update only changed pages.

API-driven functionality: forms (Formspree, Netlify Forms), authentication (Auth0, Clerk), search (Algolia, Typesense), comments (Disqus, Giscus), and payments (Stripe). APIs add dynamic features without servers.

E-commerce with JAMstack: Shopify Storefront API + Next.js or Snipcart for simple stores. Pre-render product pages at build time for sub-second loads. Dynamic cart and checkout via JavaScript.

Deployment: Vercel, Netlify, and Cloudflare Pages deploy JAMstack sites with git integration. Push to main triggers build and deploy. Preview deployments for branches enable team review.

Performance advantages: static files served from global CDN edges provide sub-100ms TTFB worldwide. No server processing means consistent performance regardless of traffic volume.

Security benefits: minimal attack surface. No server to compromise, no database to breach, and no dynamic code execution for most pages. APIs are the only dynamic surface to secure.

Limitations: sites with millions of pages have long build times. Highly dynamic content (real-time data, personalized pages) requires client-side JavaScript or edge functions, adding complexity.
